Polycarbonate board is a high-performance thermoplastic sheet material known for its excellent impact resistance, light transmission, and long-term dimensional stability. It is widely used in construction, industrial protection, and architectural applications where strength, safety, and durability are required. Based on manufacturing structure, polycarbonate boards are generally classified into solid polycarbonate sheets and multiwall polycarbonate sheets.
Solid polycarbonate sheets are fully dense panels with a smooth, glass-like appearance. They provide high transparency while offering significantly higher impact resistance than traditional glass. In the global market, the most common standard size for solid polycarbonate sheets is 1220 × 2440 mm (4 × 8 ft), which is widely accepted for fabrication, distribution, and downstream processing. Other commonly used sizes include 1220 × 1830 mm and 2050 × 3050 mm, while non-standard dimensions are typically supplied through cutting or customization. Solid polycarbonate sheets are frequently used for safety glazing, machine guards, protective barriers, and interior partitions.
Multiwall polycarbonate sheets, also known as structured or hollow sheets, feature internal ribbed designs that reduce weight while improving rigidity and thermal insulation. Industry-standard products usually have a fixed width of 2100 mm, combined with standard lengths such as 5800 mm, 6000 mm, 11800 mm, or 12000 mm. Thickness options typically range from 4 mm to 40 mm, allowing different levels of load-bearing capacity and insulation performance. Common internal structures include twin-wall, three-wall, four-wall, X-structure, and honeycomb, each designed to meet specific mechanical and thermal requirements.
Polycarbonate boards are available in clear, opal, blue, lake blue, green, bronze, and other customized colors. Color selection helps control light transmission, glare, and visual appearance without compromising material strength. Due to their weather resistance, impact strength, and processing flexibility, polycarbonate boards are widely applied in skylights, canopies, greenhouses, façades, industrial enclosures, and modern architectural designs.
By combining standardized dimensions with diverse structures and colors, polycarbonate boards have become a core material solution in contemporary construction and plastic engineering applications.
